OPD: Driver charged with murder in January fatal crash at 2nd and Ewing

An Owensboro man has been charged with murder in relation to a fatal crash in January at the intersection of West 2nd Street and Ewing Road.

According to OPD, 34-year-old David Biggs was driving westbound on West 2nd Street early on the morning of January 17 when he struck Brian Bedwell, 49, of Owensboro, who was driving southbound on Ewing Road.

Bedwell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Daviess County Coroner’s Office.

Biggs sustained severe injuries and was initially transported by AMR to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital before being transferred to Louisville for further treatment, according to OPD.

As part of the investigation, the Accident Reconstruction Unit executed multiple search warrants. As a result, authorities said Biggs was charged on April 29 with the following:

  • Murder
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree, second or greater offense (two grams or more of methamphetamine)
  • DUI, first offense
  • Disregarding a traffic control device (traffic light)
