Daviess County held off Hancock County, while Owensboro beat Owensboro Catholic. In other action, Apollo and McLean County both won.

Daviess County 3, Hancock County 2

Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the seventh, the Hornets scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. Unfazed, the Panthers Brody Brubaker responded with a two run single in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off 3-2. Brett Poole went 1-3 with an RBI, while Mason Russelburg and Lucas Ward had three of the teams five hits. Cameron Rickard threw four shutout innings, while Poole pitched the last three innings in relief.

“Brody Brubaker had a great at-bat with two strikes and hit a ball hard to win it for us,’ Daviess County head coach Austin Clay said. It wasn’t pretty, but we did what we had to. It was good to see Cameron Rickard get back out on the mound for an extended time, really for the first time this year. Brett Poole put a couple of good swings on some balls and really drove some balls.”

For the Hornets, Porter Hay went 2-3 with two RBIs, while Carson Clark and Louden Fluharty had the teams other two hits. Hay started on the mound, allowing one earned run over four innings, while Nolan Maxwell and Fluharty both pitched in relief.

“This was a disappointing loss, but we competed and gave ourselves a chance to win,” Hancock County head coach Tony Banta said. “We did some good things, but not enough in the end. It was great to get Porter Hay back on the mound as a starter for the first time this year.”

Owensboro 7, Owensboro Catholic 1

The Red Devils scored four insurance runs in the top of the seventh to beat Owensboro Catholic 7-1. Ty Ashley went 3-4 with five RBIs, while Blake Kimbrell also drove in a run. Cayden Ray and Will Rickard both had two hits, while Evan Hampton scored twice. Will Hume threw two shutout innings on the mound, while Ray and Rickard both pitched out of the bullpen.

For the Aces, Jaxson White drove in the team’s lone run, while Tucker Evans, Alex Hood, and Jake Murphy had three of the team’s four hits. Luke Quinn started on the mound, allowing three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, striking out two. Gentry Atwell pitched in relief, allowing three earned runs over 1 1/3 innings.

Apollo 8, Union County 3

The Eagles rode a five run first inning to beat Union County 8-3. Jackson Carder and Gunnar Hendricks combined for two hits and four RBIs, while Jagger Pate went 1-1 with an RBI, walking twice. Carder started on the mound, allowing one earned run over three innings, striking out five. Isaac James pitched in relief, throwing four shutout innings and striking out nine.

“Outside of one defensive inning that needed to be cleaned up, we played really well tonight, ” Apollo head coach Brandon Dennis said. “We had some really good at-bats, especially early, and both Carder and James were strong on the mound. Both of those guys did an outstanding job.”

McLean County 8, Ohio County 1

Brooks Lynam and Connor Mitchuson combined for four hits and four RBIs to power the Cougars to an 8-1 win over Ohio County. Hayden Hudson and Houston Whitaker both drove in runs, while Ayden Rice scored twice. Jax Lee threw a complete game on the mound, giving up one unearned run over seven innings, striking out eight.

“We executed pretty well and Jax Lee was outstanding on the mound,” McLean County head coach Darren Lynam said. “Brooks Lynam had hits from both sides of the plate. This was our 12th win in a row which is a school record.”
