McLean County is back in the 10th District Championship, while Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) both fell short in the opening round of their district tournaments.
Meade County 2, Hancock County 0
A pair of errors in the bottom of the third made the difference, as Hancock County fell to Meade County 2-0 in the opening round of the 11th District Tournament. The Hornets had no answer for Meade County’s Austyn Stansbury, who threw a no-hitter, striking out six and walking two. For Hancock County, Porter Hay was just as efficient, allowing two unearned runs over six innings, striking out four.
“I thought we played well. Porter Hay pitched a very solid game,” Hancock County head coach Tony Banta said. “We just could not get any balls to fall in. Meades’ pitcher pitched an outstanding game. As far as the season, the overall record is not what we anticipated, but we have a bunch of young players who were able to get varsity experience. That will prove valuable over the next few seasons. We competed in the majority of our games, and that was goal number one. Always compete, and you give yourself a chance to win.”
McLean County 4, Ohio County 0
Jax Lee threw a complete game shutout, striking out 11 to power the Cougars to a 4-0 win over Ohio County and a spot in the 10th District Championship. Corbin Martin and Connor Mitchuson both drove in runs, while Houston Whitaker went 2-3 at the plate.
“We played pretty well and Jax Lee pitched a stellar game,” McLean County head coach Darren Lynam said. “Brooks Lynam had a big two out hit to start a rally in the third, when we took a 1-0 lead on a Connor Mitchuson triple. We then threw a runner out at the plate in the fifth on a ball down the right field line on a relay from Hayden Hudson to Lynam to Mitchuson with two outs to preserve the shutout.”
Grayson County 10, Trinity (Whitesville) 0
The Raiders fell behind 4-0 in the first and were unable to recover, losing to Grayson County 10-0 in the opening round of the 10th District Tournament. Grayson County’s L Rogers threw a no-hitter, walking six and striking out 11. For the Raiders, RJ Cecil started on the mound and Cale Boarman and Connor Hatfield both pitched in relief.
