Lady Raiders win first 12th District Championship title since 2019

A year after losing in the first round of the 12th District Championship, Trinity (Whitesville) made sure to take care of business this time around, beating Butler County 9-3 for their first District Championship since 2019.

The Lady Raiders took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after an Ella Morris RBI single and an Aubree McKinney two-run triple. Morris made it 4-0 in the bottom of the third on another RBI single, before Trinity scored four more an inning later – capped off by a Sophie Hatfield three-run homer.

Butler County scored three runs in the top of the fifth, but the Lady Raiders shut the door and took care of business the rest of the way.

Hatfield threw a complete game in the circle, giving up three unearned runs over seven innings, striking out eight. At the plate she finished 2-4 with three RBIs, while Sarah Payne and Madison McDaniel both drove in runs.

“I could not be prouder of these girls,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Jessica Morris said. “They came out to play tonight, they worked as a team, and everyone did their part. Sophie started strong in the circle in the first inning, and the team followed up by scoring three runs. The team was determined to win at that point.”

This weekend, the 3rd Region Tournament draw will be announced, with the tournament starting next week at Meade County.

Hancock County shutout in 11th District Championship

It was an off night for the Lady Hornets, losing to Meade County 10-0 in six innings. Jordyn Waltrip had the teams lone hit, while Bella Bryant drew a walk. Ryleigh French started int he circle, allowing six earned runs over three innings, while Bryant pitched the last 2 1/3 innings in relief. Despite the loss, Hancock County already punched their ticket to the 3rd Region Tournament.

“It was a tough night. Meade County is a very good team,” Hancock County head coach Dwayne Wroe said. “They are solid in every area. They have good pitching, good hitting, and are solid defensively. They were just the better team tonight. We are looking forward to the 3rd Region Tournament and getting to play some more. Any extra games our young kids get will just help us for the future.”
