Owensboro Health Regional Hospital has implemented an artificial intelligence platform in all operating rooms to automate supply tracking and improve documentation during surgeries. Hospital officials said the platform is designed to reduce manual work, minimize errors, and give clinicians more time to focus on patient care.
The new system, developed by AssistIQ, integrates with Epic and allows surgical teams to scan and automatically document all supplies and implants in real time.
“We’re choosing technology that works for our staff,” said Beth Steele, Owensboro Health COO. “AssistIQ has helped us reduce paperwork, close documentation gaps and create more efficient surgeries.”
Since launching the platform, Owensboro Health has reported more than 99% accuracy in supply and implant capture and a more than 90% reduction in inventory depletion errors.
The rollout was led by the hospital’s perioperative and supply chain teams in collaboration with Optum IT and revenue cycle staff. Officials said the workflows were customized to fit clinical needs from the start.
“This makes my job a lot easier so I can focus on patient care,” said Lindsay Hawes, Nurse Circulator in Owensboro Health Surgery.
AssistIQ Co-Founder and CEO Lisa Israelovitch praised Owensboro Health’s leadership in embracing practical innovation.
“Owensboro Health is proof that when you put frontline teams first, real innovation happens,” Israelovitch said. “Their commitment to staff experience and data integrity helped us go live with a full Epic integration in just a few months. It’s inspiring to see what’s possible when technology and clinical needs, and operational IT expertise move forward together.”
