The Owensboro Police Department is investigating an incident involving multiple gunshots and a vehicle accident late Tuesday night.

According to a release, OPD responded just before midnight to multiple reports of gunfire in the 1700 block of Parrish Plaza Drive, where witnesses reported that vehicles fled the area and subsequently crashed nearby.

Daviess County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were in the vicinity responded to assist and were the first to arrive on scene. Deputies located a wrecked vehicle with an unconscious driver and immediately began providing medical aid, officials said.

As OPD officers arrived, they located the operator of a second vehicle and also rendered medical assistance, according to the release. Both drivers were transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Officials said preliminary investigation indicates that one of the vehicles was struck multiple times by gunfire. While both individuals sustained severe injuries from the crash, neither was hit by gunfire, the release says. Investigators recovered a firearm and multiple shell casings at the scene.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and subsequent crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Forker at 270-687-8820 or leave an anonymous tip with Owensboro Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484 or via their Facebook page.
