Independence Bank is accepting applications for its annual scholarship program, now in its 25th year.

Since its founding in 2001, the program has awarded more than $1.9 million to high school seniors across Kentucky. That total is expected to surpass the $2 million mark this year as the Bank continues to honor the vision of its late founding partner Charles A. Reid. Before his passing in 2001, Reid requested the establishment of a scholarship fund to help deserving students access a college education.

“Our program supports high school seniors who believe the best and never stop striving,” the Bank stated in its announcement. “Here, we’ve learned the best way to go forward is by giving back.”

The scholarship application window is now open and will remain available through February 24. Students can apply online at 1776bank.com/scholarships. Recipients will be recognized during an in-person reception in Owensboro this spring.

In 2025, the program awarded a total of $144,400 to 72 students across the Bank’s 15-county footprint. Award amounts ranged from $500 to $15,000, with 10 recipients earning $5,000 or more. More than 460 students applied last year, representing a wide range of academic achievements, community service, and personal stories.

Scholarships are awarded through a comprehensive review process that considers academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and personal essays. The Bank said it seeks students who show “resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to making the world better.”
