Owensboro City Commissioners have approved an amended partnership agreement with River City Pickleball, Inc., adjusting funding terms tied to the pickleball complex currently under construction at Ben Hawes Park.
Commissioners approved Municipal Order 9-2026 on Tuesday, authorizing Mayor Tom Watson to execute the revised agreement with the organization.
City Manager Nate Pagan said the amendment modifies the club’s financial commitment to the project while giving volunteers additional time to complete fundraising efforts. Pagan said the revised agreement increases the club’s total contribution toward the project.
“The amendment increases the club’s contribution from $500,000 up to $700,000,” Pagan said.
The updated agreement also extends the timeline for River City Pickleball to fulfill that commitment.
“We do give the club an extra year to fully fund this higher contribution,” Pagan said. “The previous agreement gave them four years, and they now have five years to raise this money.”
Pagan said the adjustment aligns with the club’s sponsorship model as it continues to raise funds.
“This allows the club to do a five-year sponsorship term as they continue their fundraising efforts,” Pagan said. “We understand that that effort is actually going very well, and we appreciate the partnership with the club. It has been a good project.”
The pickleball complex at Ben Hawes Park is expected to feature 18 courts designed to accommodate recreational play as well as leagues and tournaments. City officials have said the facility will expand access to the fast-growing sport while creating opportunities to host regional events in Owensboro.
