Stepping into the batter’s box, it took Dylan Mucker just one pitch to put his stamp on the game, driving it to right field for an RBI single. Three batters later, Jacob Shultz scurried home on a wild pitch to hand Hancock County an early 2-0 lead.
It was a short-lived lead, as Meade County tied the game in the top of the second on a two-run homer, en route to a 12-3 win. The Hornets’ third run of the game came in the bottom of the third on a Meade County fielding error, before being outscored 10-0 the rest of the way.
Jacob Shultz scored a pair of runs and finished 1-3 at the plate, while Jack Roberts, Landis Pate, and Mucker were responsible for three of the team’s four hits. Mucker started on the mound, allowing three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings, while Grant Smith and Shultz both pitched in relief.
The Hornet’s won’t have to wait long for a chance at revenge, as they travel to Meade County tomorrow night.
