On April 17 and 18, the final 2A State Championships of the 2025-2026 school year come to town as the Kentucky 2A State Baseball and Softball Championships take place April 17-18 with the softball being played at Jack C. Fisher Park and baseball at Apollo High School.

The baseball and softball state champions will be crowned for the sixth time in Kentucky 2A history. Kentucky 2A provides an opportunity for mid-size high schools who are too large for the All “A” State Tournaments with an enrollment higher than 575 students, but still under 1,000. The inaugural Kentucky 2A Baseball and Softball Championships were held in 2021.

The 2A organization consists of statewide competitions in basketball, golf, soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball. Kentucky 2A’s board works closely with the team at Visit Owensboro in the scheduling and planning of these competitions with the 2026 Kentucky 2A State Basketball Championships being the highest attended edition of the tournament to date.

The field of baseball teams for the 2026 state championships currently consists of Murray, Whitley County, Glasgow, Nelson County, Larue County, and Harrison County with the Section 6 and Section 8 champions still to be determined.

The softball teams who have punched their ticket to compete at Jack C. Fisher Park are Harrison County, Casey County, Allen County Scottsville, Clay County, Trigg County, Lawrence County, and North Oldham with the Section 6 champion yet to be crowned. Boyd County took home the 2025 2A baseball state championship with Warren East claiming the 2025 softball title.

There are currently 64 member schools throughout the state in Kentucky 2A. The organization’s efforts extend beyond the court and into the classroom as a minimum of 10 scholarships are awarded to senior student athletes each year who will go on to attend any post-secondary institution within the state of Kentucky.

“After a record-setting attendance at the Kentucky 2A State Basketball Championships this past January, our team at Visit Owensboro is excited to wrap up the school year with the baseball and softball state tournaments,” Lucas Daunhauer of the CVB’s sports department said. “Fisher Park and Apollo High School have been great to work with as hosts leading up to the events, and our community and hotels do an excellent job of welcoming these teams in from across the state. We want to thank Owensboro Health for being an excellent partner of Kentucky 2A. They truly understand the impact that youth sports opportunities can have and are a huge advocate for our community in these statewide events, with their athletic trainers also working closely with the student athletes.”

The 2026 2A State Baseball Championships get underway at 10 AM at Apollo High School on Friday, April 17, with the Softball State Championships beginning at 12 PM at Jack C. Fisher Park the same day. Competition carries through Saturday with the championship games set for 4 PM at Apollo and 2 PM at Fisher on Saturday, April 18.
