Despite being off for almost a week, the Owensboro Bombers picked up right where they left off, beating the Madisonville Post 6 Rangers 16-2. Eli Hampton was a major catalyst at the plate, finishing 3-4 with a homer and four RBIs.
The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead behind a bases-loaded walk, a Brady Benjamin RBI single, and a sacrifice fly. Madisonville cut the lead to 3-2 in the second after back-to-back RBI singles by Brooks Lynam and Blake Prow.
Colton Carver crushed a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 5-2, and the Bombers added four more runs in the fourth. A pair of RBI doubles by Ryleigh Logan and Benjamin in the fifth made it 11-2, before a four-run sixth inning, capped off by Hampton’s three-run homer, iced the game.
Eli Hatfield, Carver, and Benjamin each drove in a pair of runs, while Logan scored three runs and finished 1-1 with an RBI.
Gage Napier started on the mound for the Bombers, allowing two earned runs over three innings, while Brodie Tucker and Gentry Atwell combined for six strikeouts over three shutout innings in relief.
The Bombers return to action tonight when they travel to Eugene Pate.
