Residents now have an opportunity to weigh in on transportation projects planned across Daviess County, as the public comment period for the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is underway.
The federally required plan outlines transportation projects scheduled over the next six years, including roadway improvements, bridge rehabilitation, safety enhancements, and other infrastructure investments throughout the county.
GRADD Metropolitan Planning Organization Director Tom Lovett said public input is an important part of the planning process.
“Transportation is one of those things that affects everyone — whether you walk, bike, drive, ride a bus or receive a delivery at your home or workplace,” Lovett said. “This comment period is a chance for the public to weigh in on what they feel are the community’s needs or deficiencies. Every voice, every opinion matters, and this is an opportunity for everyone to make their voice heard.”
The plan includes descriptions of each proposed project, maps showing project locations, and explanations of why the projects are being recommended.
Residents can review the Transportation Improvement Program online or at several locations throughout the county and submit comments by phone or email. GRADD will also host three public meetings where residents can review the plan, ask questions, provide feedback, and suggest future transportation projects.
Printed copies of the Transportation Improvement Program are available at:
- Owensboro City Hall lobby
- Daviess Fiscal Court Office
- Whitesville City Hall
- Daviess County Public Library information desk
- GRADD reception desk
Three public meetings are scheduled:
- July 9 — 4-7:30 p.m. at GRADD, 300 Gradd Way
- July 16 — 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club, 3415 Buckland Square
- July 20 — 4:30-7 p.m. at Daviess County Public Library, 2020 Frederica Street
Comments submitted during the public comment period will be considered before the Transportation Improvement Program is finalized.
Federal law requires urbanized areas with populations of 50,000 or more to maintain a Metropolitan Planning Organization to oversee transportation planning and the use of federal surface transportation funds. The Owensboro-Daviess County MPO, staffed by the Green River Area Development District, coordinates the planning process for Owensboro and Daviess County.
