Scott Smith is seeking election as West District Constable. Smith, who currently serves as a deputy constable, said his decision to run is rooted in experience and a desire to continue serving the community in a leadership role.
“I’ve been in the constable’s office for 20 years,” Smith said. “I just want to continue to do it.”
While the constable position does not offer additional pay compared to a deputy constable, Smith said the role carries supervisory responsibility and oversight of the office’s day-to-day operations.
Smith’s public service spans far beyond the constable’s office. He joined the Moseleyville Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1986 and has served with the department ever since. He is currently the department’s chief, a position he has held for 28 years, and is also an EMT.
Before entering public safety work, Smith spent years working in the coal mining industry, balancing that career alongside volunteer emergency service until joining the constable’s office in 2006.
“I’ve served 40 years on the Mosleyville Fire Department, and I’m still doing it,” Smith said. “The constable’s office is another way I like to serve, helping people on security details and things like that.”
Now nearing 59 years old, Smith said he believes his long history of service and familiarity with the position make him well-suited to serve as West District Constable.
“I’ve served the community all my life,” he said. “This is just another way to keep helping the citizens of Daviess County.”
