Incumbent Chris Castlen won Tuesday’s Republican primary for the West Daviess County Commissioner seat, defeating challenger Dustin Warren.
Castlen will run unopposed in the November general election.
First elected in 2022, Castlen campaigned on his background in public service, public safety investments, and infrastructure improvements made during his first term on Fiscal Court.
“I am running again because I love our community and am very grateful to the voters of Daviess County for electing me to represent them,” Castlen said in a previous interview with Owensboro Times. “This position is a way to continue to serve our citizens. From being a Marine to being a police officer, my life has been about service and solving problems.”
A retired lieutenant with the Owensboro Police Department, Castlen served more than 20 years in law enforcement before being elected commissioner.
During his campaign, Castlen highlighted Fiscal Court’s efforts to increase pay for emergency service personnel, including jail deputies, sheriff’s deputies, and firefighters, while also reducing the county property tax rate.
Castlen also pointed to infrastructure projects, including upgrades to the county transfer station and ongoing flood mitigation discussions involving western Daviess County.
“We have enlisted the assistance of the Kentucky Division of Water, the Army Corps of Engineers, and GRADD to help look at available programs and processes to move forward toward flood mitigation,” Castlen said previously.
Castlen said he hopes to continue building on current projects while encouraging greater public involvement in county government and board appointments.
