Margaret L. Lively

Margaret L. Lively, 93, of Owensboro, died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Owensboro Center. She was born on October 24, 1924 in Breckenridge County to the late Lafe & Elva Basham. She joined the Clifton Mills Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the Leitchfield Presbytery on September 15, 1935. From that time forward, she loved the church and had great interest in being a servant. She served in many capacities, including children’s work and the women’s missionary effort, and was the Stated Clerk for the Owensboro Presbytery for 18 years. In 1989, at the age of 65, she enrolled in the Memphis Theological Seminary, Memphis, TN, as a candidate for the ministry. She was ordained as a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church on July 18, 1993 by Cumberland Presbytery.

Late in 1993, Louella had her hopes fulfilled when she was called to the pastorate of the Petersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, TN. She served that congregation for about three years. From that pastorate she and her husband moved to Lakeland Wesley Village near Benton, KY where they became the coordinators of the Wellness Program for the Village. There they served in the areas of social, spiritual, mental and physical health.

Louella was married to James Orville Lively on December 2, 1942 at Hardinsburg, KY. To this union, her five children were born.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Orville Lively, her daughter, Marlene Lively Shadowen, her son, Donnie William Lively, and two sisters, Eloise Robinson and Violet Jolly.

Survivors include three sons; Steve (Mary) Lively of Owensboro, Noel (Krista) Lively of Crestwood, KY, and James (Lynne) Lively of Greeneville, TN; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 1:00 on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00-8:00 on Tuesday and after 11:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
