Shelby McBrayer

Shelby McBrayer, 95, of Philpot, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was the son of the late Virgil McBrayer and Ethel McBrayer Richards.

Employed by Modern Welding Company for 42 years, he retired in 1989. A WWII veteran, he served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater for 42 months. Mr. McBrayer served as a deacon at Sugar Grove Baptist Church in Utica where he was a member for more than 70 years. He was a past President of the Purchasing Manager Association of Evansville, a member of Travelers Protective Association, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a retired farmer, an active gardener and golfer, and past member of Windridge Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Janetta Sutherlin McBrayer; brothers, Alton and Jim; and a sister, Nila Medley.

Survivors include his five children and their spouses, Bruce McBrayer of Lexington, Donna and John Cotterill of Louisville, Debbie and Scott Baird of Owensboro, Kay and Bennie Conkright of Atlanta and David and Clare McBrayer of Masonville; thirteen grandchildren, Christoper (Christine) Cotterill, Rebecca (Eric) Lair, Brandon (Ty) McBrayer, Jessica (Jonathan) Snowden, Scotty (Jennifer) Baird, Sherri (JJ) Huskisson, Stacey (Andy) Burden, Stan (Megan) Baird, Eric (Kerry) Conkright, Kindra (Jesse) Gilchrist, Travis (Kayla) McBrayer, Mandy (Aaron) Worthington, Jarred McBrayer; and 27 great-grandchildren.

The service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, at Sugar Grove Baptist Church, 8275 Sugar Grove Church Road in Utica, Ky. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Saturday after 10:00 AM at Sugar Grove Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sugar Grove Baptist Church or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
