Earl E. Fort

Earl E. Fort, 93, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born May 12, 1925 in Mosleyville, KY the seventh child to the late James Edward and Alma Prior Fort. Earl had a passion for country music, even playing and singing for many years himself for his and everyone else’s enjoyment. He was of the Baptist faith, served as a deacon for many years at Lewisport Baptist Church and at Walnut Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member. Earl also proudly served in the United States Navy during WW II in the south pacific aboard the merchant ship A. B. Hammond.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Eileen Fort Warren and Mary Fort Backus; and four brothers, Clarence, Hugh, O.T. and Charles “Lindy” Fort.

Earl is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Bessie Daffron Fort; a son, David Fort and his wife, Jeanne, of Owensboro; granddaughters, Elizabeth McFarland (Scott) and Sara Fort, of Owensboro, and Andrea Fort and her fiancĂ©, Seth Dewitt of Louisville; grandson, Aaron Blake Marksberry (Liz) of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Taylor McKenzie Smith and Jaxon David Smith, Ashton Marksberry and Ella Marksberry, and Lawson Beasley; a brother, Wilburn G. “Jack” Fort of Gainesville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special four legged friend, Pepper.

The funeral service will be Noon Wednesday October 10, 2018 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastors Travis Farris and Ron Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 till 8 PM and Wednesday from 10 AM till time of service at the funeral home.
