Rev. Joe Edison Avery, Jr.

August 30, 1938 - April 25, 2022

BREMEN – Rev. Joe Edison Avery, Jr., 83, of Bremen, died Monday, April 25, 2022, at 4:37PM at Maple Health and Rehabilitation in Greenville.  Rev. Avery was born August 30, 1938, in Central City.  He was a truck driver for Greenville Log and Lumber, and a member of Nelson Pentecostal Church.  Joe was a man defined by his faith and love for his family.  He dearly loved his wife of 49 years, Shirley, and the time surrounded by the love and laughter that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren provided.  His passion for God and preaching spanned over 52 years.  His faithfulness was an example to all.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Griffin Avery; parents, Joe Avery, Sr. and Zella Avery; brothers, Bill Avery, Jimmie Avery, and Lloyd Avery; sisters, Rosemary Avery, Ruby Nell Avery, Ollie Mosby, and Jonell Hamby; daughters, Cynthia Avery and Belinda Avery; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Avery.

He is survived by his ten children, Billy Avery (Andrea) of Central City, Kathy James (Kenzel) of Central City, Rev. Keith Avery of Owensboro, Charlotte Osman (Rev. Randy Osman) of Maysville, Ladonna Haller (Scott) of Highland, IL, Ricky Avery (Tammy) of Central City, Paul Avery (Misty) of Bremen, Rebecca Burch (Joey) of Livermore, Glen Avery (Amy) of Central City, and Dewayne Avery (Shelly) of Central City; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Barbara Segers, Margaret Rector, Loretta Everett, Donnie Avery, Larry Avery, Richard Avery, Bobby Avery, and Charlie Avery.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 11:00AM at Nelson Pentecostal Church in Central City, with Pastor Paul Uzzle, Jr. officiating.  Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 4-8PM at Nelson Pentecostal Church and Saturday after 9:00AM at the church.  Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
