Martha Jo Gordon, 90, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, October 16 under the care of Wellington Parc. Mrs. Gordon was born June 23, 1928 in Daviess County to the late C. Bennett and Archie Richardson Beloat. Martha was a quiet and reserved person but very generous and family oriented. She was also an immaculate housekeeper and a great cook. Large family Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings were her favorite times of year. She raised five children while working with her husband in the auto and truck parts business. Mrs. Gordon was the co-founder of Gordon’s True Value Hardware stores in Owensboro. In retirement, she loved flower gardening, being a member of the Miniature Club and watching UK basketball games.
Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Elbert Lee “Buddy” Gordon in 1980; son, Ronald Wayne Gordon in 1992; grandson, Michael Wayne Gordon in 2013; and brother, Marvin Collier Beloat.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Lee Gordon and wife Judy, Bobby Gordon and wife Patsy Hawes, Bruce Gordon; daughter, Debbie G. Harreld and husband Arthur all of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, Scott Gordon (Jennifer), Catherine Crabtree (Brandon), Rachel Lester (Dan), Robert Gordon, Kevin Harreld (Andrea), Lauren Harreld Phelps (Rick), Chris Gordon (Michele), Marisa Maggard (Chad), Ryan Gordon; sixteen great grandchildren; sister, Marian Baker of Anderson, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be 10:00 AM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend Myke Templeton officiating. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday after 9:00 AM at the funeral home.
