Velma Iola “Bodie” Wathen Goostree born January 22, 1953 went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2022. She was a Pentecostal minister who served the Lord with passion, dedication, with praise and worship leadership beside her husband since 1974. She was a loving mother and grandmother desiring they all remain faithful to their heavenly Father and her testimony. Velma was an author of 3 books titled All My Time, Prayer Warfare and Heartbeat of Intercession that are available for purchase on Amazon. She was an artist, enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts, sister trips and being with her grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Lydia Pearl Polston and Andrew Warren Wathen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson Leelyn Dale Hatfield, sister Bertha Lynn Wathen and brothers Samuel Lee Wathen, Earl Andrew “Bunny” Wathen and Alex Warren Wathen.
Velma is survived by Roger Dale Goostree, her husband of 50 years.

1 daughter – Keila Hatfield
9 grandchildren – Brandon (Kali), Benjamin, Emma, Elijah, Andrew (Karina), Lydia, Owen, Adam Joye and Peyton
2 great grandchildren – Braiden and Aubrie Wood
1 brother – Jess Wathen
4 sisters – Sarah Cundiff, Kathy (Kevin) Greer, Rosina (Herbert) Welch and Theresa (Larry) Tucker

Funeral services will be held at Bethel Fellowship Church on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 11 AM with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Monday, 4-8 PM and Tuesday at the church after 9 AM.
