On Wednesday October 17, 2018, JoAnn Goodwin Penrod was called home to the Lord at the age of 83.
She was born October 11, 1935 in Fleming County, Kentucky to Clester Dennis Goodwin and Mary Belle Lee Goodwin. Her mother passed away shortly after JoAnn’s birth and she was raised in the loving home of Reverend Goodwin and his wife, Muriel Panter Goodwin.
JoAnn graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to earn her Masters Degree in Education from Western Kentucky University in 1971. She served the Owensboro Public Schools for almost 50 years as teacher, administrator and school board member.
JoAnn was a tireless advocate for her beloved school system, a devout member of the Methodist church, a loving wife and the best baseball mom any son could ever have.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joe Bandy Penrod, her father, Reverend C. D. Goodwin, her mothers, Mary Belle Lee Goodwin and Muriel Goodwin and her brother Dennis Goodwin.
She is survived by her son Todd, his wife Allison and their sons, Bonner and Gus; sisters, Adrienne Oeding, Rosalind Whetstone, Connie Stevens and Phyllis Cox; brother, Philip Goodwin and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to JoAnn’s caregivers her final years in Owensboro, Joanna Blaney and Holly Grenier.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 21st at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at James H. Davis Funeral Home from 2:00-6:00 PM on Saturday, October 20th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expression of sympathy take the form of donations to the Owensboro Public Schools Foundation for Excellence, 450 Griffith Avenue, Owensboro, Kentucky 42301.
