Dorothy Nell Dukes, 90, of Greenville passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at her daughter’s home, Georgia Nell, who lovingly cared for her in her final years at Bloomington, IN. Dorothy was born on December 3, 1931 in Muhlenberg County to Elgin McAfee Oates and Flora Belle Bethel Oates. She was a member of Lone Star General Baptist Church. Dorothy worked hard on the farm while raising 7 children. In her later years she enjoyed a canoeing trip with the whole family on the Current River at the age of 53 and went parasailing at the age of 83.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband George Warren Dukes, a daughter Beverly Ann Dukes, and a son-in-law Dean Dragoo.
She is survived by 5 daughters Wanda (Leslie) Harper, Brenda (Donnie) Pendley, Carolyn “Jeanie” Dragoo, Teresa (Steve) Graham, and Georgia Nell (Howard) James, 1 son Wallace Dukes, 1 son-in-law Royce Dukes, 2 sisters Bernice Wagoner and Marianna McGhee, 16 grandchildren Jacqueline Harper Morel, Alison Harper Duthie, Michael Pendley, Brad Pendley, Marinda Dukes Duvall, Anthony Dukes, Monica Dukes Lovell, Erica Dragoo Dukes, Jennifer Dragoo Miller, Rodney Dukes, Curt Dukes, Laura Graham Schembri, Adam Graham, Jessica Graham, Christian James, and Madison James, 22 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY.
A celebration of her life will be held at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Cherry Grove Cemetery conducted by Rev. Royce Dukes.
