Morris David Matthews

May 5, 1950 - May 25, 2022

Morris David Matthews lost his battle with cancer at 2:03 PM on May 25, 2022 with his daughter by his side. He proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his daughter Michelle D’Anne Matthews and son Morris David Matthews II, 1 granddaughter, 1 grandson, 1 great grandson and many truly great friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Rosebud ‘Granny’ Matthews, his parents Morris Thomas and Justine Matthews and 2 brothers James and Philip Matthews.

He is remembered as a tough, strong, funny, honest and loving man with a huge heart most people were unaware of. He loved driving all across this beautiful country, throwing a rod in her waters every chance he got and he had a special fondness for Minnesota. He had a guilty pleasure of 80’s music and he never lost the ability for a twinkle to appear in his intelligent blue eyes. He published 2 books and created some of the most intricate art out of wood and metal, with some having over 10,000 tiny pieces. The world lost an amazing man, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by those that loved and respected him.

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 1 PM with burial in the Hall Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM on Sunday.

If you wish, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to RaptorRehab.org in Louisville in his name. They have an Eagle flight campaign to build a flight enclosure for Bald Eagles to relearn to fly before release and there will be a plaque dedicated to him.
