Meta Jo Spurrier, 86, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mrs. Spurrier was born October 10, 1932 in Daviess County to the late Roy and Alice Houtchen Greene. Meta spent her childhood growing up in Sample of Breckinridge County and attending a one room schoolhouse. She graduated from OHS and attended Brescia College. After marriage to William H. Spurrier, she devoted herself to being a wife and raising a family including several foster children. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Mrs. Spurrier loved a variety of music, playing games, traveling with her husband on business, and spending time with her family. She was a follower of Jesus Christ and attended Pleasant Grove UMC where she faithfully taught Sunday School.
Mrs. Spurrier was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William H. Spurrier in 2010; her sisters, Janis Greene and Jane Miller.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jane Nishimori of Owensboro and son, Ryon Nishimori of Nashville; daughter Leah Day and husband Claud of Owensboro and children, Dexter Day (Cheryl), Austin Day, and Matthew Day; son, Jim Spurrier and wife Lisa of McLean County and their children, Dr. James Spurrier Jr. (Meghan), Amber Hall (Johnny), Brienna Meffert of San Jose, California, Jolene Spurrier, and Jessalyn Spurrier.
Services will be 4:00 pm Thursday, November 8 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Mark Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm till time of service.
