Marjorie "Margie" Calhoun

Marjorie “Margie” Calhoun, 87, of Owensboro, passed away November 6, 2018 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Daviess County to the late Charles and Frankie Hulsey Harl.

Margie enjoyed crafting, quilting, sewing and playing cards. She made many of her children’s clothes. During the summer you could find her in the kitchen canning and freezing vegetables from the big garden she and her husband raised. Margie was a member of Curdsville Methodist Church. She worked at G.E. until her family started to come along; Then she worked full time at home raising their seven children. When her husband passed away in 1983, she took over running their grocery store., Calhoun’s Market, in Curdsville. She worked there until November of 2015. She was very proud to say that she lived in Curdsville her whole life until she moved to the Carmel Home in June of 2016. Margie was a very strong and courageous woman.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of thirty years, Bernard J. Calhoun; children, Ray Calhoun and Barbara Griswold; a granddaughter, Kate Hayden; great-grandson, Christopher Calhoun; a brother, Delbert “Homer” Harl; daughter-in-law, Kay Calhoun; and son-in-law, Peter Griswold.

Survivors include children, Karen McCarty (Mark), David Calhoun (Monica), of Owensboro, Joy Hobson (Mark) of Xenia, Ohio, Glenn Calhoun (Sheila), Dennis Calhoun (Cheri), Phil Calhoun, Beth Fogle (Phil), Gary Calhoun (Beverly) and Bob Calhoun; a daughter-in-law, Mildred Calhoun, all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Aubrey LaHugh, Kirk McCarty, Stefan Calhoun, Vanessa Gentry, Jake Hobson, Jenny Denen, Camille Hobson, Ashley Hancock, Wes Calhoun, Adam Hayden, Connor and Grace Calhoun, Karri Barnett, Kelci and Tyler Calhoun, Steven Clark, B.J., Nick and Julia Calhoun, Jessica, Taylor, Alli and Will Fogle, Tanya Skeens, Sherri Pate, Joe and Jim Calhoun, Mike and Dave Griswold, Shelly Calhoun, Rob and Tami Calhoun and Leah Robey; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Faye McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews.

The service will be 10 AM Thursday, November 8 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. James Wedding will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 until 8 PM and Thursday after 9 AM at the funeral home.
