Shirley Ann Embry Knight Crawford, age 85, entered heaven on Friday, November 11, 2022. She was born July 4,1937 in Butler County, Kentucky to Mal and Ruby Embry.
Shirley grew up in Louisville where she enjoyed riding the bus downtown to watch movies or go skating. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1955.
In 1956, she married Charlie Knight. They were blessed with four children, and she was very proud of each of them. Later in her life she married Kenneth Crawford.
Shirley was a member of the Lilac Church of Christ and was a devoted Christian. She loved to sing and teach children about Jesus. During difficult times, she would often quote Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” She will be remembered for her strong faith in God.
She worked at Head Start as a parent educator for many years. She was an awesome teacher and helped many families. One of her favorite activities she will be remembered for is “Going on a Bear Hunt”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Dayna Baker, sisters Jean Plemmons, Cookie Phipps, Alice Embry and brother Dr. Tom Embry.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Woosley (Eddie), three of her four children: LuAnne (Mitch) Stanley, Steve (Gina) Knight, David (Cindy) Knight.
Nine grandchildren: Brent (Kathleen), Andrew (Anne), Lauren (Charlie), Kristen, Rachel (Chris), Claira, Daniel, Julia and Victoria.
10 great grandchildren: Jared, Eva, Rhema, Lyla, Luke, Maren, Lyla, Scarlett, Addison and Jaylynn and multiple nieces and nephews.
Her celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Leitchfield Memorial Chapel with visitation 10:00-12:00 p.m. with the service to follow at Noon CST.
