
Winford Coy Heflin, 98 of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at his home. He was born on September 1, 1924, in Centertown, Kentucky to the late Cleve and Nancy Mary Collins Heflin. Coy was a WWII Army and Merchant Marines Veteran and member of the 249th combat engineers. He served in four major battle zones, participated in the D-Day invasion in Europe and he received four bronze stars. Coy was a member of Leach General Baptist Church, and he worked as a machinist for the Naval Ordnance.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grada Eardeen Tarrence Heflin; one son, Winford O’Dell Heflin; one daughter, Rose Mary Heflin; two brothers, James Luther Heflin and Hayward Pennington Heflin and one sister, Thelma Lee Heflin.
He leaves behind to cherish many memories, six children, Donald Ray (Rose) Heflin of Olaton, Randell Gene (Judy) Heflin of Elizabeth, Indiana, Rondell Lee Heflin of Beaver Dam, Johnny (Darla) Heflin of Horse Branch, Pearl Ann (Rick) Beard of Hartford and Markeeta Heflin (Chris Goff) of Beaver Dam. Coy was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and many others that he claimed as his own.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 15, 2022, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Jay Raymond and Rev. Michael Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Leach Cemetery in Horse Branch with military honors provided by the Ohio County Honor Guard. Friends may visit with Coy’s family from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9 A.M. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
