Mary Dydemia Childers Gwaltney

June 27, 1931 - January 13, 2023

JACKSONVILLE, FL., Mary Dydemia Childers Gwaltney, 91, formerly of Greenville passed away at The Terrace of Jacksonville, Jacksonville, FL Friday, January 13, 2023. Mary was born on June 27, 1931 in Cahokia, IL to Arthur and Mollie Holland Childers. In June 1947 she married Delbert Leslie Gwaltney and immediately became the wife of a Navy Seabee. They lived in various locations across the United States and in Okinawa, Japan during Delbert’s Navy career. They eventually retired to Greenville where Mary enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother and loved her family dearly. She loved playing video games, watching the St Louis Cardinals, singing, and playing the piano. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert, her siblings, and youngest son Robert (Rob).

She is survived by 2 sons Delbert, Jr (Barbara) of Arizona and Mike (Roni) of Jacksonville, FL., 4 grandchildren Gina Gwaltney of Orangeburg, SC., Shawn Gwaltney of St Augustine, FL., Clark Gwaltney of Olive Branch, MS., and Robin Gwaltney Johnston of Greenville, daughter-in-law Joy Clark Gwaltney of Senatobia, MS., and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00am at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY.

A private family burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
