Daniel H. (Wee) Smith

October 23, 1931 - January 22, 2023

Daniel H (Wee) Smith was born October 23, 1931, at Hensley, KY.  He passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023.  Together with his late wife, Sue Henninger Smith, they raised two girls and spent their lives happily married, working hard, and enjoying their family.  Aside from working and living out of state in their early marriage, they built their life less than one mile from his birthplace—exactly where he wanted to be.

Wee was a devoted family man.  He loved his children and grandchildren and found great joy in the great-grandchildren bouncing in and out of the house.  Wee was always the same; in a good mood.  He loved traveling the United States with Sue.  He loved a good “trade” (he would trade anything that stood on four legs or had wheels).   He loved building trailers, a good dog, a fine story, and iced tea.  He loved a big pot of spicy chili, and he loved cornbread. Wee was a retired pipefitter-welder and farmer.

In addition to his wife, Sue, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Yana Marie Harris, his parents, Victor and Mattie Harned Smith and by his brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Dean Smith.

He is survived by daughters, Vicki Sue Smith Frank of Breckinridge County, and Cathy Smith Tabor of Greenville, SC.  Sister-in-law Donna (Jim) Cook of Greenville, IN, son-in-law and friend, Erwin Frank of Bowling Green.  Grandsons Daniel (Jenna) Frank, of Bowling Green, and Will Tabor of Tacoma, WA.  Granddaughters Betsy (AJ) Anthony, and Cate Morgan Glasscock (Ronnie) Hinton of Breckinridge County, great-grandchildren Hattie and Piper Hinton, Tripp and Emmitt Anthony, Saul, Ruby, and Teyla Frank.  Step-granddaughter, Dash Tabor of London, England.  His niece Debbie Smith Gray and nephew Gary Tom Smith of Breckinridge County.  Glenna (Bruce) Binkley of Corydon, IN, Melissa (Mark) Jones of Bradford, IN, and Marla (Charlie) Seiburns of Corydon, IN.  As well as several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2023, from 9am – 11am at the Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be followed by the service at 11am.  Burial will be in the Hensley Cemetery immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.
