Naomi Westerfield Johnson

July 27, 1924 - December 2, 2018

Naomi Westerfield Johnson, 94, of Owensboro, took the hand of Jesus and went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 2, 2018 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky at the Heartford House. She was born at home in Ohio County, KY on July 27, 1924, the only child of the late Alva C. Westerfield and Eunice Ralph Westerfield. She was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church for 40 years, and most recently a member of First General Baptist Church in Owensboro. Her strong faith in God sustained her through many difficult years following an automobile accident in 1970 resulting in serious internal injuries and a broken back from which she never fully recovered. She was an inspiration to many through the years who knew there was never a day she was without pain but kept as active as she could. She had been bedridden for the last seven years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and the first of five generations of only children. She loved to sew, work crossword puzzles, read her Bible daily, listen to gospel music and spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her wonderful husband of 59 years, Lonnie Paul Johnson, who passed away in 2005.

She is survived by her daughter and loving caregiver, Cheryl Johnson Henderson, of Owensboro; a grandson, Kevin Scott Henderson (Jenifer); a great-granddaughter, Lexie Henderson; a step great-grandson, Logan Rager; and a precious great-great-grandson, Zayne Alexander Bratcher, all of Owensboro. Also surviving is a special lady who has been the sister Naomi never had, her sister-in-law, Glenna Johnson Willis of Bowling Green and a dear longtime friend, Emma Jean Houser of Owensboro.

The funeral service is at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in the chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Cates Cemetery, Whitesville, KY.
