Richard Delbert Fulkerson

November 30, 1930 - December 8, 2018

Richard Delbert Fulkerson, 88, of Owensboro passed away on Sat. Dec. 8, 2018, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Delbert was born Nov. 30,1930, in Henderson County to the late Edgar L. Fulkerson and Margaret Dunbar Fulkerson. He worked as a sheet metal worker for 25 years and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church.

Delbert enjoyed watching UK Basketball, New York Yankees, gardening and attending family gatherings. He was known as a master Burgoo maker. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing ball, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Delbert was a devout Catholic.

He also was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Marie Fulkerson in 2015; a son, James Allen Fulkerson; two sisters, Dora Lee McFadden and Violet Newman.

He is survived by his children, Mary Beth Howard, Chris (Susie) Fulkerson, Todd (Jackie) Fulkerson and Drew (Stacey) Fulkerson; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Melissa) Howard, Eric (Erin) Fulkerson, Madison (Katelyn Orth) Fulkerson, Jordan Fulkerson, Dylan (Tesla Corley) Fulkerson, Emily Fulkerson and Morgan (Brandon) Loyd; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Howard, Ashleigh Howard, and Fatuma Nsengiyunva; one sister, Sharon Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 am Wednesday at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter of Alcantara Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday and after 9:30 am Wednesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Prayers will be said 6 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
