James "Jim" William Poteat

May 5, 1949 - December 12, 2018

James “Jim” William Poteat, 69, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Thomaston, GA on May 5, 1949, Jim was the son of the late James Pierce and Lucy Josephine Poteat and was retired from Century Aluminum where he was an Environmental Engineer. Jim was a very caring, compassionate man — a kind, generous and gentle soul. He always put the interests and well-being of others over himself. He was an avid reader, great athlete, and UK sports fan. He also enjoyed yardwork and was a “Mr. Fixit” for many projects at home and for others. Jim was also a very spiritual person who attended Crosspoint Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Chumley Poteat in 2002.

Surviving are his wife, Annamaria Bozarth Poteat; a son, William Seth Poteat and his wife Karen of Lexington; step-sons, Aaron Clarke and wife Stacy of Greenville, IN and Jason Clarke of Lawrenceburg, IN; grandchildren, Jude Harrison Poteat and Leighton Jane Poteat; step-grandchildren, Ethan Clarke, Tyler Clarke, and Kasen Clarke; brothers, Steve Poteat and wife Vickie of Philpot, Keith Poteat and wife Alicia of Auburn, IL, and Jerry Dockery and his wife Susan of Owensboro; a sister, Lynn Fogle and husband Phil of Masonville; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12 pm Saturday, in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Revs. Billy Compton and Ferrell Isenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday with a time for sharing at 7 p.m. and after 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Special Olympics of Daviess County, Hospice of Western Kentucky, or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
