Rebecca "Becky" Settle Helmers

October 10, 1952 - December 17, 2018

Rebecca (Becky) Settle Helmers, daughter of Roy and Judy Settle born October 10, 1952, passed
away under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky on Dec. 17, 2018. She was a beloved wife,
mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Becky touched so many people throughout her life. She
raised a smart, kind, compassionate son, Dr. Christian Altman, who brought her much joy as they
grew together.

After meeting the love of her life, the late John Helmers, the two brought happiness not just to
each other but also to family and friends. They shared the world with everyone they met through
their travels, whether it was through ballgames and tailgating, horse racing endeavors, family
vacations, or cruising the seas. Always one to enjoy a crowd, whether at the horse races,
concerts, vacations or trivia, she never missed an opportunity to celebrate life.

Using the degrees she earned from Western Kentucky University, Becky impacted her
students at Apollo, as attested by the number of former students who reminded her how much
she meant to them. Becky shared her heart and time with the community by volunteering with
the Dream Riders organization, even serving on the board. She was also an ardent supporter of
Girls, Inc.

As a sports enthusiast, Becky cheered on the Saint Louis Cardinals and KWC Panthers, and she proudly supported her Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. As a lifelong member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, Becky worshipped, volunteered, and served on various committees.

Those left to treasure her memories are her son, Dr. Christian Altman (Enrique) of Chicago;
her mother, Judy Settle; brothers, David Settle (Shelley), and Mitch Settle (Kim), of
Owensboro; stepsons, Hal Helmers (Jennifer) of Louisville, David Helmers (Anne), Lee
Helmers (Kelly) of Lexington; nieces, Sarah Hagan (Danny), Julie Moore (Mark), Emmy
Hamilton (Gary) Sydney Settle, and Shelby Payne (Aaron); loving canine companion, Lucky;
and special friends, Marsha Nash and Walter Lee.

In keeping with Becky’s spirit, a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December
21, 2018 at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Switzer officiating.

Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Thursday December 20, 2018 at Glenn Funeral Home and
Crematory. Visitation on Friday will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Dream Riders of
Kentucky, Girls Inc., or The Robert Austin Meythaler Scholarship Fund c/o Settle Memorial
United Methodist Church.
