Ruby Evelyn Phillips

June 15, 1926 - December 30, 2018

Ruby Evelyn Phillips, 92, of Owensboro, KY passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation. Ruby was born in Weakley County, TN on June 15, 1926, to the late Everett and Ollie Graham Chambers. She was a long-time member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Ruby worked as a secretary in Oak Ridge, TN for the United States government during World War II where they built parts for the atomic bomb. Then she worked as a seamstress for 30 years and spent many hours sewing for her family. After she retired, Ruby loved to travel all over the country visiting many places including several trips to Disney World with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Ruby loved to cook, and very much enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Luther Phillips Jr.; a grandson, Nathan Shreve; a great-granddaughter, Lacey Hardaway; a great-great-granddaughter, Evelyn Elizabeth Hagan; and a great-great grandson, Jayden Aaron Phillips.

Ruby is survived by her two sons, Jerry Phillips and his wife, Ruth, of Owensboro and Kenneth Phillips and his wife, Faye, of Terrell, TX; six grandkids, Sheilia Royal (Tim) of Owensboro, Jerry Lynn Phillips of Owensboro, Angie Leachman (Tim) of Owensboro, Brian Phillips (Morgan) of Rockwall, TX, Jodi Campbell (Robert) of Forney, TX and Donna Shreve Stevens of Owensboro; 19 great-grandkids; 9 great-great grandkids; a sister, Jettie Jones of Chicago, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Ruby will be Noon Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Bro. Eugene Howard officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday and after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery in Martin, TN on Saturday.
