Robert J. “Big Bob” Miles, 88, of Owensboro left his earthly home January 29, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. He was born December 13, 1930 in Holland, Michigan. His parents were the late Nelson A. and Helen Louise Miles.
Bob attended both Albion College in Albion, Michigan and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Miles worked as a human resources manager for various manufacturing companies and retired from Dan River Fabrics, Inc. in Danville, Virginia. Following retirement folks considered Bob to be the ultimate handyman. He helped realtors rehab houses, was known for building great decks and fences and was generally the “go-to-guy” in the neighborhood. Bob was generous to a fault, especially with his children. He was selfless, quick-witted and had a great sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Miles was preceded in death by a son, Robert Nelson Miles.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Lou Frank Miles; daughter, H. Suzanne Miles of Owensboro; daughter-in-law, Sue Gayle Miles of Henderson; and step-grandchildren, Lauri Santos and Christopher Allen.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 PM, Friday, February 1 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 and Friday after 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
