Shirley Nevitt 89, of Island, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at her home in Island. Shirley Ann Sullivan was born September 17, 1934 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late James Henry and Emma G. Crabtree Sullivan and was married to Bobbie Wilson Nevitt November 30, 1950.

Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She lived a life full of love, service, and devotion to her family and community.

Shirley devoted her professional life to serving her community. She retired from the Kentucky Department of Social Services, where she worked tirelessly to support the needs of her fellow citizens. Her dedication and commitment to her work reflected her deep-rooted values of empathy, compassion, and care.

Known for her crocheting, Shirley created beautiful pieces that are treasured by those lucky enough to receive them. Her passion for her craft was only surpassed by the love she had for her family and friends. Shirley’s home was always filled with laughter and love, especially when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were visiting. These moments brought her immense joy and fulfillment.

A member of the Island United Methodist Church, Shirley’s faith was integral to her life. For many years, Shirley worked in the church nursery, rocking numerous babies that are grown adults now and a part of our community. Her unwavering spirit and strong belief guided her through life’s challenges and triumphs. She was a beacon of strength and resilience to all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bobbie W. Nevitt, who died May 21, 2001; by a son, Dennis Wayne Nevitt; and by a great grandson, Jarrett Nevitt.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Nevitt (Kim) of Livia and Eddie Nevitt (Michele) of Lewisport; two daughters, Rhonda Cook (Tab) of Island and Keitha Henderson of Cahokia, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Susie Nevitt of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Louis Sullivan of Ledbetter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday November 6, 2023 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial will be in the Island Community Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Shirley’s family from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Monday at Musters in Livermore.
