Phillip Gary Abshier

Phillip Gary Abshier, 77, of Owensboro passed away here Monday, February 11, 2019. Born in Owensboro, a son of the late Union Abshier and Edith Day Abshier Bertke, he graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and earned an accounting degree from Brescia College. Mr. Abshier worked for Tennessee Liquified Gas before enrolling in law school at what was then Memphis State University, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree. Following graduation, he returned to Owensboro to practice law. He retired in 2009 from Bamberger, Abshier and Brancato Law Firm where he was a founding member. Mr. Abshier was a member and past president of the Daviess County Bar Association and was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association. He owned liquor stores in Owensboro, Whitesville, and Henderson. He had served as an associate professor at Brescia College, teaching business law, and as secretary of the Kentucky Appaloosa and Quarter Horse Racing Commission. Mr. Abshier enjoyed boating and racing, be it horses or cars.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Gary Abshier, of Atlanta, Stacie Moyers and her husband Audie, Jill Clark and her husband Aaron, and Nick Abshier, all of Owensboro; the mother of his children Jackie Abshier; his grandchildren Cole Abshier, Chase Abshier, Conner Abshier, Camron Abshier, Lexi Moyers, Gabi Moyers, Madison Clark, Carson Clark, and Allison Clark; his brother Dr. W. Mark Abshier and his wife Martha of Owensboro; and a very close friend Marcia Martin of North Carolina.

The funeral Mass for Gary Abshier will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at The Parish of the Immaculate, where visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:45 Thursday. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
