Doris L. “Winnie” Johnson, 78, of Thruston, passed away December 18, 2023 at home. She was born in Knottsville on October 3, 1945, to the late Adrian John Payne Sr. and Ruth Morris Payne. Doris was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and served on the Bereavement Team. She loved the time spent with her family and was a faithful wife and loving mother. She worked at G.E., but most of her life was spent caring for her family at home. Doris was spiritual and faithful. She enjoyed shopping and always found something to keep her busy. She welcomed visitors into her home and considered nobody a stranger. Doris was also preceded in death by her son, Keith W. Johnson; daughter, Tamara Millay; and siblings, Marshall T. Payne, Rommie Payne, Raymond S. Payne, Joseph W. Payne, Lily Powers, Jane F. Blackburn, Ruth Therese Payne, Doris L. Payne, Donnie B. Payne, and Adrian J. Payne, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Norman Johnson; children, Ruth Ann (John) Austin, Tabitha (Rodney) Willinger; grandchildren, Meagan (Dillin) Melton, Spencer Millay, Kayla (Alec) Smith, Alex Austin, Cambron Austin, Chloe Ambrose, and Jaxson Willinger; great-grandchild, Rilynn Melton; siblings, Mary G. (Eddie) Hickey, Carolyn (Richard) Lopes, Mary G. (Emmett) Barnett, Daniel C. (Pam) Payne and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday with prayers at 6:00 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Additional visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
