Iona Hancock 90, of Calhoun, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Riverside Care and Rehabilitation Center in Calhoun. Iona Mae Olds was born January 1, 1933 in Peoria, Illinois to the late Alvin Everett and Nellie Irene Hohenbary Olds. Iona’s life was a testament to her thoughtful, gentle, and kind nature.
Iona’s early years in Peoria were filled with the love and guidance of her parents. Her heart found its match when she married her beloved husband, Paul J. Hancock, on September 16, 1950. Their union was blessed with love, laughter, and a daughter, Paula Sue Hancock of Calhoun. Iona and Paul shared a devoted marriage of 62 years until his passing on January 9, 2013.
A dedicated homemaker, Iona took pride in caring for her family and making their house a home. Her life was a reflection of her faith as a member of the Holiness church, where she found strength and community. Iona’s helping hands were often seen alongside Paul on their family farm, where she joyfully supported their shared passion for the land and its bounty.
Her talents extended beyond the farm to the kitchen, where Iona’s cooking brought comfort and joy to many. She had a unique ability to turn simple ingredients into dishes that warmed the heart and soul. Her love for cooking was only matched by her enjoyment of bingo, which brought her excitement and a sense of camaraderie with fellow players.
Iona’s leisure time was often spent in the glow of the television screen, watching her favorite game shows and classic movies. These moments of relaxation were cherished, as they allowed her to unwind and indulge in the stories and challenges that captivated her imagination.
Above all, Iona cherished the moments spent with her family and friends. Her presence was a source of stability and love, creating memories that will be treasured by all who knew her. Iona’s gentle spirit and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered.
Iona’s legacy is carried on by her loving daughter, Paula Sue Hancock of Calhoun, who embodies the strength and compassion of her mother. Her memory will also live on in the stories shared among friends and the quiet moments of reflection by those who were touched by her grace.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Iona’s family from 10:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Musters in Calhoun.
