Donnie Johnson 74, of Island, Kentucky passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Donald Lee Johnson was born November 12, 1949 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Jack and Lillian Lee Penrod Johnson, was married to the former Sharon Kay Williams on March 29, 1969 and was better known as ‘Donnie’ to both his family and friends. Donnie was a man of integrity and warmth, whose life was as rich and fulfilling as the Green River he so loved.
In his professional life, Donnie was a respected retired carpenter, known for his skillful hands and attention to detail. His craftsmanship was not just a career but a passion that he poured his heart into, leaving behind a legacy of sturdy foundations and beautifully built structures. He was a man who believed in the value of hard work, and his dedication to his trade earned him the respect of his peers and the community.
Donnie was a member of the Holiness faith. His love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He found peace and solace on the Green River, where he spent countless hours enjoying the tranquility of nature. An avid fisherman, he relished the quiet moments waiting for a catch, as well as the excitement of reeling one in. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, embracing the stillness and patience it required. Later in life, Donnie discovered a new pastime, spending time on his computer, which kept him connected with friends and family and allowed him to explore new horizons from the comfort of his home.
To know Donnie was to know a man who lived his life with purpose and joy. He approached each day with a positive attitude and a ready smile, always willing to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement. His presence was a comfort, and his laughter was contagious.
In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Ray Johnson; by a daughter, Tina Marie Johnson; and by four brothers, Jackie Johnson, Jimmie Johnson, David Johnson, and Terry Johnson.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon Jean Johnson; a daughter, Carolyn Clark (Scott) of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Heaven Maddox (Julius), Cheyenne Shouse, and Tony Shouse; four great grandchildren, Aubrey Brey, Myla Maddox, Izzy Maddox, and Grayson Shouse; and three brothers, Gary Johnson (Patty) of Livermore, Randall Johnson, and Timmie Johnson (Amanda) both of Owensboro.
Family services will be held at a later date. There will be no public visitation. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is handling the arrangements for Donnie’s family.
