James Randall Coomes

James Randall Coomes, 79, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born October 12, 1944, in Whitesville, to the late James and Myrtle Taylor Coomes. James served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was retired from Alcoa where he retired after 37 ½ years of service. James also enjoyed going to and betting on horse racing, and boating on the Ohio River with his family.

Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Coomes; a sister, Margie Coomes; and a grandchild, Nicholas Porter.

James is survived by his wife of 37 years, Charlotte Isom Coomes; his children, Kenny (Holly) Coomes, Laura (Troy) Porter, Krista (Thomas) Givan, Jarrod (Angela) Nichols, and Kyle (Kelly) Nichols; ten grandchildren, Keith Coomes, Heather Coomes, Taylor Coomes, Jake Porter, Sarabeth Jones, Levi Vertrees, Madalyn Leatherman, Anna Nichols, Isaac Nichols, and Forrest Nichols; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Roseann Cecil; brothers, Donnie Coomes and Ricky (Marilyn) Coomes; also several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Coomes will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday February 14, 2023, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Father Mike Williams officiating. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 until 7 p.m. with prayers at 6:30 p.m., and also on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
