John W. "Bill" Stone

May 22, 1935 - March 3, 2019

John W. “Bill” Stone, 83, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born May 22, 1935 in Clark County, KY to the late Marion Lewis and Elizabeth Denny Stone. Bill served in the National Guard for five years and worked for and retired from A.K. Steel after 39 years of service. He enjoyed being outside, whether it was going fishing, hunting for squirrel, sitting on his covered porch watching the birds, feeding squirrels, and working in his yard doing landscaping, flowers, and mowing it to perfection. Bill was a jack of all trades when it came to working with his hands and was quite the woodworker for many years. He enjoyed photography, taking pictures of nature, his wife, and even bears in Gatlinburg on their many trips there. What Bill enjoyed most was his family, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death an infant sister, Teresa Gail; and a sister, Elsie Stamper.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy Tipton Stone; a daughter, Beth Reynolds (Butch) of Owensboro; a son, Jeff Stone (Nova Peters) of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Rachael Clark, Matthew Turull and Jonathan Stone; four great grandchildren with number five expected in July; two sisters, Louise Mathis of Middletown, OH and Sue Hill of Hazard, KY; a brother, Vernon Stone of McKee, KY; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved fur baby Yorkie, Lilly.

The funeral service for John W. “Bill” Stone will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Visitation will be from Noon till time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
