Joy Ann Belcher

December 8, 1938 - March 10, 2019

Joy Ann Belcher, 80, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at her home, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Owensboro, the daughter of the late Wyndall and Piny Cochran Smith, she was a graduate of the Sullivan School in Virginia and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College. Joy was totally devoted to her family. The best mother in the world, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the focus of her life. An avid tennis player with a wicked cut shot, she enjoyed all sports. UK basketball and OHS football and basketball were among those she followed closely. Joy loved the sun and being outside, whether it was working with her yard and flowers or time spent in Florida. Active in her community, she was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, the Junior League, the Women’s Guild, and was a long-time board member of the Salvation Army. Joy’s diverse activities included being named Miss Green River R.E.A. 1955 and holding a motorcyclist license.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 61 years, Homer Belcher; her children Suzy Belcher, Ted Belcher and his wife Susan, Sandy Royse, and Sally Belcher; her grandchildren Joy Beth Lashbrook Dawahare (Stephen), Sarah Lashbrook, Josh Lashbrook, Sarah Beth Belcher Maxson (Phil), Lacy Lashbrook Ochs (Tyler), Lindsey Lashbrook Robbins (Mike), Molly Belcher (Sean McGlynn), Luke Lashbrook (Brooke Schneider) Jordan Royse, and Kris Belcher; 9 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; her brothers David Smith (Brenda), Stanton Smith, and T.A. Smith (Cathy); and her special caregiver Geraldine “Momma G” Owsley.

The memorial service for Mrs. Belcher, officiated by Rev. Myke Templeton, will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
