Malvine Churilla Ulber

December 12, 1926 - March 13, 2019

Malvine Churilla Ulber, 92, of Philpot, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Balint and Susan Szitas Churilla.

She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Hammond, Indiana where she was an organist, pianist, soloist and member of the choir and Hungarian dance group. As a young mother, Malvine returned to school at Purdue University where she earned her LPN Degree and graduated first in her class. She had a deep love of music, and through the years her hobbies and interests included antiquing, karate, reading, crossword puzzles and yoga.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joseph “Joe” R. Ulber Sr. in 2016; a sister, Ethel Sabo; and brothers, Robert, Albert and Mickey Churilla.

Malvine is survived by two daughters, Shane Cavin of Owensboro and Diane Stinnett (Allen) of Maceo, her son, Joseph R. Ulber, Jr. (Sherri) of Owensboro; five grandchildren: Emily Ulber (Jonathan Lintner) of Louisville, Katie Ulber, Sarah Basham (Kenny) and Chase Cavin, all of Owensboro, and Josh Wardrip (Nikki) and great-granddaughter, Olivia of Pittsburgh; and a brother, Balint “Bill” Churilla of Hammond, IN.

Malvine requested a private service for her family, followed by cremation.
