Louise Coomes 81, of Richland, Indiana passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at her home in Richland, Indiana. Virginia Louise Keown was born August 9, 1942 in Henderson County, Kentucky to the late David and Addie Mae Bates Keown, was married to Francis Thomas ‘Frank’ Coomes on February 14, 1962 and was better known as ‘Louise’ to both her family and friends. She grew up with a spirit of kindness and a generous heart that would become her signature traits throughout her life.

A dedicated healthcare professional, Louise retired as a certified nurse’s assistant after 27 years of service. She was known for her compassionate care and the comfort she brought to her patients and their families. Her work was not just a job but a calling, as she touched the lives of many through her unwavering dedication and empathy.

Louise’s passions extended far beyond her professional life. She was an avid sewer and quilter, creating beautiful pieces that are treasured by those fortunate enough to receive them. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her enjoyment of camping and traveling. She delighted in exploring new places and making memories with her family. Louise also found joy in taking leisurely rides on her golf cart, which became a favorite pastime in her later years.

In her younger days, Louise and Frank enjoyed square dancing, an activity that brought them closer together and allowed them to form lifelong friendships within their community. The rhythm of the dance floor was a testament to their harmonious life together.

Louise’s life was one of love, service, and joy. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her influence will continue to be felt by those who were touched by her kindness. Her spirit of generosity, her infectious smile, and her unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by two sons, David Pryor and Larry Coomes; by a grandson, Caleb Smith; by a brother, James Keown; and by two sisters, Lucy Lovell and Linda Keown.

Louise is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank Coomes; a son, Tommy Coomes (Brenda Crouch) of Vincennes, Indiana; three daughters, Janice Young (Lorene) of Hatfield, Indiana, Kathy Smith (Al) of Francesville, Indiana and Nicole Thomas (Brent) of Rockport, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, Oliver Scott (Malena), Clayton Scott (Pui), Robert Scott, Jennifer Evans (Nick), Jake Coomes, Danny Goodwin (Misty), Ryan Smith (Sarah), Kyle Smith (Sarah Camino), Levi Smith, Charles Harrelson (Kinzie), and Andrew Harrelson; sixteen great grandchildren, Daniel, Ingrid, Alexandra, Lillieanne, Dakota, Lena, Frankie, Brayden, Meadow, Sage, Michael, Addison, Daniel, Kailyn, Colton, and Ruby-Jo; and a brother, Archie Keown of Hatfield.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Louise’s family from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Saturday and from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Sunday at Musters in Calhoun.
