Dorothy Snyder Harper, 91, of Owensboro, went peacefully to her heavenly home Sunday, May 12, 2024 under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born in Tell City, Indiana to the late James and Hazel Hendershot Snyder.
Mrs. Harper retired from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital in 1992 after 30 years of service. Following retirement, Dorothy enjoyed working alongside her husband at Harper Sales & Auction in Rockport IN. She also enjoyed reading, decorating, and listening to audio books. Dorothy was a long-time resident of Park Regency where she faithfully attended worship services conducted by local clergy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John L. “Jay” Harper, Sr.; a daughter, Deborah Kay Burgess; a great-grandchild, Lucas Makiah Lee Hall; a sister, Regina “Jean” Starks; and a brother, James “Jimmy” Snyder.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Lana Harper, Sherree Wall (David) and John L. Harper, Jr. (Vanessa Revlett) from Owensboro, KY; son-in-law, Mike Burgess of Martinez, GA; 10 grandchildren, Lynette Hitt, Bubba Inglett, Jamie Inglett, Tiffany Inglett, Brad Roberts, Jeremy Roberts, Jennifer Cain, Beth Helton, Jill Payne and Tyler Harper; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, May 14 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
