
Gregory worked as an assistant manager at Shoe Carnival and went on to work for Sears where he retired after several years.
Gregory served his country in the Navy as an electrician on the USS Aucilla and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a proud member of Owensboro Christian Church and the American Legion. Gregory loved music, photography, cars, and above all, tinkering with electronics and gadgets. He was a loving husband and father, and wonderful granddaddy and great-granddaddy.
Gregory is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rita Jeanette Stallings Tong; two sons, Gregory (Holly Heintz) Tong of St. Petersburg Florida, and Shane Mehlbauer of Owensboro; one daughter, Krystal (Jasen) London of McKinney Texas; and one “granddaughter-daughter,” Leslie Mehlbauer; seven grandchildren, Tosca, Hunter, Leslie, Emily, Tessa, Alton, and Ava-Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Maisie, and Malik. He is survived by six sisters, DeeDee Hill, Sandy (“Blackie”) Sorrells, Debbie Tong, Beth Lacefield, JoAnn (Mike) Hinton, and Marty (Jon) Baker; and one brother, Anthony (Kimberly) Tong; along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, and again from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Gregory Tong was very proud of where he came from, and he loved the blended family he and his wife Rita created dearly.
