BEAVER DAM – Joe Charles Davenport, 82, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, passed away peacefully with family at his home on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith Hines Davenport; his sons – Mac Davenport of Huntsville, AL and Mike James (Holly) of Tuscaloosa, AL; his grandchildren – Walker Davenport of Burlington, IA, Jake Davenport of Beaver Dam, KY, Tuck Davenport & Audrey Davenport of Huntsville, AL, and Mary Baxter Hartzell & Madi James of Tuscaloosa, AL.
Sister–in–law, Edith Rice and her children; Dr. William Douglas (Jennifer) Figg, Sr. and their son Dr. William Figg, Jr., and David (Meredith) Figg and their children Andrew and Ava.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Pauline Davenport, his brother John Davenport, Jr., and his son Blake Davenport.
Joe was born in Cool Springs, Kentucky, on February 6th, 1942. He attended Western Kentucky University, where he completed his degree with a Rank 1 Master’s in Education. Shortly after college, he started teaching Math and Biology before he was quickly promoted into school leadership. After serving as Principle of Wayland Elementary for a few years, he moved over to the Ohio County Board of Education’s Central Office, serving as Assistant Superintendent. After his career in education, he joined the family business of Beaver Dam Building Supply.
Joe was a devoted member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher to the Pairs & Spares Class for 45 years. The family has experienced many years of love and support from their church family at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Friday, August 9th, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and on Saturday, August 10th, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at Beaver Dam Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall.
