
Richard Hugh “Hoot” Hagan, 92, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was born in Whitesville, KY on April 2, 1932 to the late Gilbert and Oretta Ryssellburghe Hagan. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro, KY but attended St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY for most of his life.
Hoot retired from Whirlpool Corporation on May 1, 1994, then helped family members with farm and mechanical work, and enjoyed playing cards at “the Club”, going to horse races at Ellis Park and loved old country music. Hoot loved his pet dogs over the years and always took very good care of them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Hagan, Ann Bickett, infant brother Charles Hagan, Catherine Higdon and Raymond Hagan.
Hoot is survived by his sister, Eileen Basham, sister-in-law Emily Hagan, many nieces and nephews and his lifelong best friend, Donnie Abell.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Mary of the Woods Parish.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday August 27, 2024 at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, Kentucky. Burial will follow in St Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00am – 11:30am on Tuesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville.
