Billy J. Atherton, 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Billy was born in Henderson County, Kentucky to the late J.B. and Hilda Fortney Atherton. Billy was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, as well as the Chamber of Commerce. He owned and operated Mechanical Consultants, Inc. He worked in the plumbing and pipe trades for 50+ years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and UK Basketball. He loved going to Lake Barkley and taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren out on the boat.
Along with his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his sister Wilda Trimble and his step-father Humphrey Atherton.
Billy is survived by his wife Kathy Edwards Atherton; children Tammy (Jimmy) Gillaspie and Mark (D.J.) Atherton; grandchildren Logan Atherton, Lily (Ross) Lee, Maddie Atherton, Gracie Atherton and Lucas Gillaspie; and great-grandchildren Jay Atherton and Raelynn Atherton. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings Bonnie (Bill) Butler and Linda (Bob Newman) Beebe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Brother Tim Campbell presiding. Burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2024, and again on Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, at the funeral home.
